Dear Farmers!
If this is your first visit and you want to find out what services we offer for the health and well-being of your pet, we have put together a list of the treatments and programmes we offer in this article.
The most important criteria for choosing our services are always check in with your pet for a health check the first time! We ask you to do this so that the Physiotherapist can recommend the most appropriate treatment for your dog based on his or her current physical condition. You can also help us a lot by sending us your pet's previous veterinary medical records, including any diagnostic imaging (RTG, CT, MRI) before the first appointment. It is important to clarify that the assessment IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR AN ORTHOPAEDIC SPECIALIST EXAMINATION! The health check helps you to:
- During the assessment, we will assess which treatment is right for your pet.
- We will give you a comprehensive overview of your dog/kitten's current musculoskeletal condition and, if necessary, refer you to an orthopaedic specialist.
- If your puppy/cat has undergone surgery, we will prepare a treatment plan to help him/her recover.
- We offer solutions to prevent preventive and long-term health deterioration.
- If your puppy is active in sports, we show you exercises that will help improve his performance.
There are always a thousand questions on the minds of first-time Farmers, and we're here to help you navigate the wide range of solutions.
The physiotherapy is a form of physiotherapy treatment primarily used to prevent and treat musculoskeletal disorders and to support rehabilitation processes. It is an excellent treatment for joint pain, deformities, injuries, abrasions and inflammations. The aim of physiotherapy is to relieve pain, restore the pleasure of movement and mobility, while complementing medical treatments and increasing the effectiveness of surgical interventions. The treatments are carried out under veterinary supervision by a physiotherapist, in close collaboration with the treating doctor, who uses manual techniques and specific exercises to promote lasting recovery. Therapy programmes may include manual therapy, mechanotherapy, stretching, therapeutic massage and home exercises that can be learned by the patient's owners.
Hydrotherapy exploits the curative effects of water, where the main factors are temperature, hydrostatic pressure, the stimulating effect on blood circulation and the reduction of stress. The weight of the animals in the water is significantly reduced, allowing for joint-friendly muscle development, increased joint range of motion and improved endurance. This method is particularly beneficial for overweight, elderly or arthritic animals, as well as those with coordination, neurological or orthopaedic problems. Hydrotherapy can help paralysed animals to stand and later walk underwater, especially during treadmill movements. It is also ideal for sporting dogs, as movement in water activates muscles that are less active on land. During the therapy, the speed, temperature and water level of the treadmill can be varied to personalise the treatment, which speeds up the recovery process and is essential for a full recovery.
Laser therapy is a prominent branch of modern medicine, involving both low-energy and high-energy laser technologies. Our centre uses the most advanced Class IV diode laser, which has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. This technology is safe and painless, with the use of appropriate protective equipment. Laser therapy promotes cell regeneration and proliferation, increases blood circulation and improves oxygenation, thus accelerating wound healing, reducing oedema and muscle tension. Particularly effective in the treatment of bruises, haematoma, bone fractures, ligament injuries, chronic arthritis, disc herniation and degeneration. It is also excellent for ulcers, skin lesions and wounds that are difficult to heal, as well as for post-operative wound healing.
The ultrasound therapy is an effective physiotherapy method that provides pain relief and anti-inflammatory effects. This technology is based on a crystal that begins to vibrate when electrically charged, generating piezoelectric waves. These waves penetrate deep into damaged tissues, improving blood flow and promoting faster cell regeneration and inflammation reduction. The treatment involves the use of an ultrasound transducer, on which a special gel is placed to allow the sound waves to travel optimally to the area to be treated. Ultrasound therapy is particularly effective in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders such as bursitis, muscle strains, tears, and ligament injuries. Our professional ultrasound machine, based on Italian technology, has multiple heads for more effective therapy and can be used underwater, so it can be combined with hydrotherapy treatments. Patients usually feel no discomfort or pain during ultrasound treatment.
Polarised light therapy is an innovative method of rehabilitation and preventive treatment, carried out in our veterinary centre using the POLARISOL Medical Innova device. This technology uses polarised light to help boost energy levels and promote healing processes, taking advantage of the animals' natural attraction to sunlight. Polarised light therapy is proving to be an effective treatment, particularly for warm-blooded animals and certain reptile species, and has a wide range of applications. It can also be used for dogs, cats, small and large mammals and ornamental birds, and is particularly effective for wound healing, anti-inflammatory, dermatological and arthritic treatment. It helps to stimulate microcirculation and open capillaries and pores, allowing faster absorption of the active ingredients of skin care ointments, creams and medicines. In horses, it is particularly beneficial for rapid wound healing, scar treatment and rapid relief of inflamed areas, as well as for boosting the immune system. The gradual familiarisation of the animals with the treatment builds confidence and the treatments quickly become a favourite with the pets.
The recreational massage a comprehensive massage treatment that offers a variety of beneficial effects. This massage focuses on warming up, relaxation and regeneration, thus helping to improve mobility and relax the muscles. The treatment helps to relieve muscle swelling, increases muscle flexibility, reduces stiffness and contributes to the optimal functioning of the metabolic processes in the muscles. This massage is excellent both for everyday stress and fatigue relief and as part of specific rehabilitation programmes, for example for athletes or individuals with an active lifestyle. The techniques used during the treatment can promote not only physical but also mental well-being, improving overall well-being and performance.
The dog-fitness a special conditioning programme for healthy dogs, designed to improve fitness and strengthen muscles. Regular fitness exercises allow dogs to use their legs and core muscles better, which contributes to improved overall performance and prevention of muscle injuries. This type of training is particularly useful for sporting dogs as it helps to develop muscles evenly and reduce the risk of injury, so it can also be beneficial during cross training.
We hope this article has provided you with a useful insight into the different therapeutic options available to help your pet's health and well-being. If you need more information or would like to discuss specifically which treatment would be most ideal for your pet, we are happy to help.
